From Shahdag to the Airport

Just under three hours for 185 km: the mountain road down to Quba, then the highway that reaches the terminal without entering Baku. The climb and the resort are on the Baku to Shahdag page. The sum is manageable — three hours before an international departure plus three of road is six — but the first hour of it is a descent, and in winter that hour is the one that refuses to be hurried.

No scheduled service leaves a ski resort. To use a bus you would first arrange a taxi down to Quba, at the lifts, in January, with skis — and then take a bus that ends at a terminal in Baku and leaves you crossing the city. That is two improvised legs before a check-in desk. A car goes hotel door to terminal in one movement. On request, and in winter we check the road before your date rather than on the morning you have a plane to catch.

Frequently asked questions

What time should we leave Shahdag?
Six hours before departure: three of road and three at the airport. In snow give the descent an extra half hour rather than discovering you needed it.
Is there a bus from the resort?
None. Buses reach Quba, and getting down to Quba is a taxi arranged at the lifts. Before a flight that is two improvised legs where you want none.
What about ski luggage?
It is the reason to name your group properly when booking. A car that fits four people in July may not fit four people plus boards in February, and finding that out at the door costs you the margin.
What if the road is closed?
We check before your date, not on the day. If snow has shut it we tell you in time to change the plan rather than at the moment you need to be leaving.
