Questions about day trips from Baku

Meeting points, real durations, what the price covers and what to bring.

Where does the tour start, and do you collect me from my hotel?
Shared departures leave from one fixed point — Azerbaijan Avenue 1 in Baku, by the car park — which is what keeps the start time honest for everyone on board. On a private booking we collect you from your hotel instead. Your confirmation carries the exact place and time.
How long does a day trip from Baku actually take?
Longer than the distance suggests. Gobustan and the mud volcanoes is a full eight hours; Sheki, Khinalig, Gabala and Lankaran run twelve to fourteen. Every tour page states its own figure and we do not round it down — a route sold as eight hours that takes thirteen ruins the evening it was meant to leave room for.
Are your tours private or shared?
Both, depending on the route. A shared departure runs with fifteen to eighteen travellers at the very most, and often with far fewer. Several tours can also be booked privately, which means the vehicle, the guide and the timing are yours alone. The tour page says which option a route offers.
What does the price include?
The vehicle, the fuel and your driver-guide for the whole day. Entrance tickets, meals and optional extras differ from route to route, so ask us on WhatsApp before you book and we will tell you in writing exactly what your price covers. We would rather answer that question twice than have you find out on the day.
Which languages do your guides work in?
English, Russian and Turkish. If you need another language, write to us before booking rather than after — we will tell you honestly whether it can be arranged for your date instead of promising it and improvising.
How do I book, and what happens next?
Pick your date on the tour page, fill in the booking form and confirm. You get a reference straight away, and we come back to you to confirm the departure itself — normally within a few hours. Everything after that runs on WhatsApp, including the message the evening before with your meeting point.
Can I cancel or move my date?
Yes. A day trip cancels free of charge up to 24 hours before departure, and moving to another date costs nothing up to the same point as long as that date has room. The full terms, including what happens when we are the ones who cancel, are on our cancellation policy page.
When is the best time of year to travel out of Baku?
Late April to June and September to October: warm, clear, and comfortable on the long drives. July and August are hot in the city but pleasant once you are in the mountains, which is exactly why the Shahdag and Khinalig routes fill up then. Between December and March the high roads can close, so check with us before booking a mountain route in winter.
Do I need a visa for Azerbaijan?
Most nationalities can apply for an e-visa online through the ASAN Visa system, and it takes minutes. The rules change, so check the current requirement for your own passport before you travel — that is the one part of the trip we cannot do for you.
What should I bring on a day trip?
Shoes you can walk on rock in, water, and something warm even in summer — Gobustan is windy and Khinalig sits ten degrees colder than Baku. Bring some cash as well: cards work almost everywhere in the city and almost nowhere at a village stall.
