Khizi Day Trips from Baku

5.0 7

Khizi is the nearest the Greater Caucasus comes to Baku, and it is where the hills turn to stripes: bands of red, cream and grey rock the guides call the "candy-cane" mountains. On the way lie the Beshbarmag rock, the salt-pink Masazir lake and open country that photographs like nowhere else near the city.

Because it is close, Khizi is the gentlest of our mountain days — short drives between the sights, easy walking, and back in Baku with the afternoon to spare. Compare the trips below and book with a local guide.

Frequently asked questions

What are the candy-cane mountains?
Bands of red, cream and grey rock in the Khizi hills, striped like a candy cane — the reason the area is a photographer's day out. They are the highlight of the Khizi trip.
Is the Pink Lake part of it?
The salt lake at Masazir reads pink in warm, dry weather and sits on the Khizi side of the road out; our candy-cane day takes it in. Its colour is strongest in high summer.
Is it an easy day?
Yes — Khizi is close to Baku, the walking is short and easy, and there is no hiking. It is the most relaxed of our mountain-and-colour trips.
