Overview

Five days, five sides of Azerbaijan. This is our fullest route from Baku — the capital, the fire heritage, the mud volcanoes and rock art of Gobustan, green Gabala with its cable car, UNESCO Sheki, and the striped mountains of Khizi on the way home. A guide and transport throughout, as a group departure or a private trip (each with its own price); only one hotel change in five days.

Day by day

Day 1 — Baku & the Old City

Central Baku: Highland Park, the Boulevard and the walled Old City with the Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshahs' Palace.

Day 2 — the Land of Fire & Gobustan

The Ateshgah Fire Temple at Surakhani and the eternal flames of Yanardag, then south to Gobustan for its UNESCO rock carvings and bubbling mud volcanoes.

Day 3 — Shamakhi & Gabala

The historic Shamakhi Juma Mosque en route, then Gabala for the Tufandag cable car and the Seven Beauties waterfall. Overnight in Gabala.

Day 4 — Sheki, the Silk Road jewel

The UNESCO Khan's Palace, the caravanserai, Panoramic Park and the sweet-makers — and a bowl of Sheki piti if you like. Back to Baku for the night.

Day 5 — Khizi, Beshbarmag & the road north

North along the Caspian coast past the Beshbarmag rock and the striped Candy-Cane mountains of Khizi, with photo stops, before the trip closes.
