We drive north along the Caspian coast to Beshbarmag ("Five-Finger") Mountain, one of the country's most striking natural and spiritual landmarks. Its jagged silhouette rises straight out of the plain, wrapped in local legend, with sweeping panoramas over the mountains and coastline. A short, memorable stop to stretch your legs and start the photos.
The Pink Lake — Masazir
Back toward Baku lies Lake Masazir, a salt lake that turns soft rose-pink when the sun, salinity and tiny algae line up. It's one of the most unusual sights near the capital and a favourite for photographers — a pastel mirror stretching to the horizon.
Candy Cane Mountains — Khizi
The showstopper: the rainbow-striped hills of Khizi, often called the Candy Cane Mountains. Wave after wave of red, pink, orange and chocolate-brown rock ripple across the landscape like something off another planet.
