How to Get from Baku to Heydar Aliyev Airport

Heydar Aliyev International is 25 km from the city centre, roughly half an hour on the airport motorway outside the morning and evening peaks. Allow longer between eight and ten in the morning, and longer again if you are leaving from the Old City, where the streets take a while to escape.

The airport bus is the cheapest way there and the slowest with luggage; it runs from the city and is fine if you are travelling light and not against the clock. A street taxi is quick to find and the price is whatever you negotiate at the kerb, which at five in the morning is rarely in your favour. A booked car costs a fixed sum agreed in advance, arrives at the address you give and waits if the flight is early — the table below is per vehicle, so four people pay what one pays.

Two practical notes. Terminal 1 handles nearly all international flights and is where a driver will take you unless you say otherwise. And if you are arriving rather than leaving, the airport to Baku transfer is the same journey priced the other way, with the driver meeting you in arrivals rather than at a kerbside.
