Getting from the Airport into Baku

Twenty-five kilometres and roughly half an hour on the airport motorway — the same road as the run out to the airport, with the difference that you are arriving. Terminal 1 handles nearly all international flights, and a booked driver waits inside arrivals with your name rather than at a kerb you have to find.

The kerb is the alternative, and it is the one that varies. A street taxi is there whenever you land, and the price is whatever you agree standing beside it with your luggage — at three in the morning, after a long flight, in a currency you have had for four minutes, that negotiation rarely goes your way. The airport bus runs into town and is the cheap answer if you are travelling light and landing at a civilised hour. A booked car is a fixed sum agreed before you fly, priced per vehicle so four people pay what one pays; the driver tracks the flight, so a delay moves the pickup instead of costing you the car.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take from the airport to the city?
About thirty minutes for 25 km outside peak hours. The Old City takes a few minutes longer — the last stretch through those streets is slower than the motorway that got you there.
Where will the driver be waiting?
Inside arrivals, with your name, after you clear customs. Not at the kerb and not in a car park, which is the difference people notice most at two in the morning.
What if my flight is delayed?
The driver tracks it and waits. A delay moves the pickup rather than costing you the booking, and there is no extra charge for the waiting that a late flight causes.
Is there a bus from the airport?
Yes, into the city. It is the cheapest way in and the least comfortable with suitcases or at an unsociable hour — which is when a lot of flights into Baku land.
