How to Get from Gabala to Sheki

Distance
90 km
Driving time
1h 30m

90 km and an hour and a half along the foot of the Caucasus, the shortest hop we run between two regions. Nobody books this as a destination — it is the middle of a week, the move from the forest and the cable car to the palace and the caravanserai, and it is the leg that turns two separate day trips into one trip.

Regional buses and minibuses do run between the two, which makes this one of the easier legs to do without a car if your luggage is small and your morning is flexible; they leave from the bus stations rather than from hotels, and the timetable is a local matter that changes. A car with a driver is quoted on request because what it costs depends on whether it is a single hop or part of a longer chain — most people booking it are already carrying on to Baku, and booking both at once means the same driver and one conversation instead of two. The road runs west with the mountains on your right the whole way, and it is a pleasant ninety minutes rather than a chore.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long does Gabala to Sheki take?
About an hour and a half for 90 km along the southern slope of the Caucasus. It is the shortest leg between two regions that we price.
Is there a bus between Gabala and Sheki?
Yes, regional buses and minibuses cover it. They run station to station rather than hotel to hotel, and the timetable is local and changes — fine with light luggage and a flexible morning.
Why is the price on request?
Because this leg is rarely on its own. What it costs depends on whether it is a single hop or the middle of a chain that continues to Baku, so we quote the shape you are actually travelling.
Should we carry on to Baku the same day?
Most people do. Sheki to Baku is another four and a half hours, so it makes for a long day — booking both legs at once means one driver and one arrangement rather than two.
