Getting Back to Baku from Shirvan National Park

Distance
90 km
Driving time
1h 20m

An hour and twenty up the coastal road; the park itself is on the Baku to Shirvan page. The thing worth knowing is that this return has to exist before you arrive. You finish at a gate in flat open country with no town attached, and nothing scheduled comes there — so a car that dropped you and left is a problem you discover at the end of the day rather than the start of it.

In practice nobody books this leg on its own: the car waits while you are in the park and takes you home, and the whole thing is quoted as one outing. That is also why the price is on request — what it costs depends on how long you want inside, and the gazelles decide that more than we do. Early morning and late afternoon are when they are out, which puts a long wait in the middle of any day built around both.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

Somewhere not on this list, several stops, or a driver for the whole day? Tell us the route

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive back?
About an hour and twenty for 90 km on good road. It is the same road up as down, and nothing about the return is slower than the way out.
Can I get a bus back from the park?
No. Buses run from the towns further south, not from a reserve gate, and there is no local service closing that gap. The return is arranged in advance or it is not arranged.
Should the car wait?
It is the only sensible shape here. Tell us roughly how long you want inside and the waiting is priced into the outing rather than negotiated at the gate.
When should we plan to leave?
Whenever the light stops working. Late afternoon suits the animals and gets you back to Baku for the evening; midday in summer is neither good viewing nor a pleasant wait.
