How to Get from Baku to Shirvan National Park

Distance
90 km
Driving time
1h 20m

Ninety kilometres south, an hour and twenty minutes, and the destination is a gate rather than a town. Shirvan National Park is where the goitered gazelle survived, and it is flat, open, dry country that looks like nothing else within reach of Baku.

Nothing scheduled goes to a park gate. Buses run south towards Salyan and the town of Shirvan, but the reserve entrance is beyond them and there is no local service to close the gap — arriving by bus means arranging a car at the other end, in a place with far fewer of them than Baku has. A car with a driver is quoted on request here rather than from the table, because what it costs depends on how long you want at the gate: the park has opening hours and an entry fee paid on the day, and the animals are out early and late rather than at midday. Tell us which end of the day you want and we set the pickup around it.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

Somewhere not on this list, several stops, or a driver for the whole day? Tell us the route

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive?
About an hour and twenty minutes for 90 km, on good road most of the way south along the coast.
Can I get there by bus?
Not to the gate. Buses go towards Salyan and Shirvan town, and from there the reserve is still some distance with no scheduled link — you would be looking for a car locally, which is harder than it sounds.
Is the entrance included?
No. The park charges at the gate and that is paid on the day — the fare covers the car and the driver only, and we will tell you the current figure when you book.
When is the best time to go?
Early morning or late afternoon. The gazelles move at the cool ends of the day, and in high summer the middle of it is not worth the drive.
