Getting Back to Baku from Sheki

Distance
305 km
Driving time
4h 20m

Four hours twenty for 305 km, the same road described on the Baku to Sheki page. On the way back the length is the whole problem: this is not a leg you start after lunch and expect an evening in Baku from. A morning departure gets you in with the afternoon intact; anything after two and you are arriving into evening traffic on top of four and a half hours.

Flights make it stricter. Four and a half hours from Sheki plus half an hour to the terminal plus three hours before an international departure is eight hours of commitment — for anything before mid-afternoon the honest answer is a night in Baku first, and we will say so rather than sell you a five o'clock start. The bus runs, and so does the train on this corridor, but the station is well outside Sheki and neither ends at the airport. The car is on request because the price turns on whether it is waiting for you here or coming out from Baku empty.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long is Sheki to Baku?
About four hours twenty for 305 km. Add time for the approach into Baku in the evening, when the last half hour can be the slowest of the journey.
When should we leave Sheki?
In the morning, if you want the afternoon in Baku. After two o'clock you arrive into evening traffic having already spent four and a half hours on the road.
Can we get a flight the same day?
Only a late one. Four and a half hours plus the airport run plus three hours before departure is eight hours — for a morning or midday flight, spend the night in Baku instead. We would rather say that than sell you a dawn start.
Is the train an option going back?
It exists on this corridor, but the station is a good distance from Sheki and the train does not end at the airport either. For a straight run to a hotel or a terminal it solves less than it looks like it should.
