Getting Back to Baku from Lerik

Distance
320 km
Driving time
4h 50m

Close to five hours for 320 km, and it opens with forty minutes of switchbacks down to the coastal plain; the climb and the district are on the Baku to Lerik page. Going down, that stretch decides when you have to leave: five hours from Lerik means a morning departure if you want to be in Baku for anything at all that evening.

There is nothing through. On public transport you would take a local minibus down to Lankaran, which leaves when it fills, and then a train or a bus north — two changes and one of them on somebody else's schedule. That is fine with an open week and unworkable with a flight. A car does it without the changes and is quoted on request, because five hours in the wrong vehicle is a different journey: ask for the bigger car if there are more than two of you.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long is Lerik to Baku?
Close to five hours for 320 km — the longest by time we run in either direction. The first forty minutes down the mountain are a disproportionate share of it.
Is there a bus from Lerik?
Not through to Baku. A local minibus down to Lankaran, which leaves when it is full, then a train or an intercity bus north. Two changes, one of them not on your schedule.
When should we leave?
In the morning. Five hours plus the descent means a midday start gets you into Baku at the end of the evening, and that is before anything goes wrong.
Why is the price on request?
Because the right car depends on how many of you there are and what you are carrying, and five hours is long enough for that choice to matter more than usual.
