How to Get from Baku to Lerik

Distance
320 km
Driving time
4h 50m

320 km and close to five hours, the longest of our transfers by time on the road. The last forty minutes are the ones you will remember: past Lankaran the road leaves the coastal plain and climbs into the Talysh mountains in switchbacks. Lerik is the district that gave Azerbaijan its reputation for very long lives, and it keeps a small museum about precisely that.

Nothing runs through from Baku. You would take the train or a bus as far as Lankaran and then find a local minibus up the mountain, which goes when it goes — workable if your week is loose, not if you have a date at the other end. A car with a driver does it without the change, and is quoted on request because five hours in the wrong vehicle is a different trip: with more than two of you, ask for the bigger car rather than sitting with luggage on your knees. Few people go up and come back the same day. If you are staying, say so when you book — it is the driver's return that changes the price, not the waiting. The Lankaran and Lerik day does the pair in one go for anyone who would rather sleep in Baku.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long does Baku to Lerik take?
Close to five hours for 320 km — the longest by time of anything we run. The distance is only part of it; the climb after Lankaran is the rest.
Is there public transport to Lerik?
Not through from Baku. Train or bus to Lankaran, then a local minibus up, which leaves when it fills rather than to a timetable. Fine with a loose week; unworkable with a fixed return.
Why is the price on request?
Five hours in the wrong car is a different journey. The right vehicle depends on how many of you there are and how much you are carrying, so we quote the one that fits rather than publishing a figure for the smallest.
Can it be done as a day trip?
Ten hours of driving in one day. Our Lankaran and Lerik day does exactly that and runs fourteen hours door to door, which is why most people booking a transfer to Lerik are staying the night.
