Getting Back to Baku from Lankaran

Distance
270 km
Driving time
3h 50m

Just under four hours for 270 km up the Caspian coast; the road and what changes along it are on the Baku to Lankaran page. Going home the landscape runs the other way — citrus and tea first, then two hours of semi-desert, which is a duller drive than the one out and makes the alternatives worth a second look.

The railway serves Lankaran, and on a return that matters more than on the way down: you are less likely to be carrying a schedule and more likely to be carrying luggage that grew. Times and fares are the railway's and change, so check with them. Intercity buses also run north from the town. A car is on request, because at this distance the return is priced by whether it waited for you here or is being sent — and because a stop at the Hirkan forest on the way out of town is a different journey from a straight run.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long is Lankaran to Baku?
Just under four hours for 270 km. The road is good the whole way; what makes it long is the distance, not the surface.
Is the train a good way back?
On this route it is a real option — the line up the coast serves Lankaran. The railway publishes its own times and fares and they change, so check with them rather than with us.
Why is the price on request?
A return is priced by whether the car waited for you in Lankaran or is coming down from Baku empty, and by whether you want a stop on the way. Those are different journeys.
Can we stop at the Hirkan forest on the way?
Yes, and it is the natural stop on this leg — it starts more or less where the town ends. Say so when you book and it is in the price rather than a conversation with the driver.
