How to Get from Baku to Lankaran

Distance
270 km
Driving time
3h 50m

270 km south along the Caspian and a shade under four hours. The landscape changes more on this drive than on any other leg out of Baku: semi-desert for the first two hours, then tea terraces, citrus and the humidity that comes with them. Lankaran sits where the Talysh mountains meet the sea, inside the Hirkan forest belt and not far from the Iranian border.

This is a southern route with real alternatives. The railway down the coast serves Lankaran, which makes the train a genuine option if you are travelling light and not in a hurry; times and fares are the railway's and change, so check with them. Intercity buses also run from Baku's main terminal. A car with a driver is quoted on request rather than from the table, because at this distance the sensible vehicle depends on the group and on whether you are coming back — and neither answer is a single number. The Lankaran and Lerik day covers the region in fourteen hours, which is a very long day; plenty of people take the car one way and stay the night instead.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

What the price covers

  • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
  • Collection at your address, not at a station
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
  • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Baku to Lankaran?
Just under four hours for 270 km. The road is good the whole way, so what makes it long is the distance rather than the surface.
Is there a train to Lankaran?
Yes — the line down the Caspian coast serves it, and that makes rail a real option on this route. The railway publishes its own times and fares and they change; check with them rather than with us.
Why is the price on request?
At 270 km the right car depends on how many of you there are, how much luggage, and whether it is one way or a return. One published number would be wrong for most of those, so we quote the car that fits.
Can Lankaran be done in a day?
Our own day trip runs fourteen hours door to door, which tells you most of what you need to know. If you are going for the region rather than to tick it off, a night there halves the effort.
