How to Get from Baku to Absheron

Absheron is the shortest journey we price — thirty-five kilometres, forty minutes — and the only one where the destination is a whole peninsula rather than a point. Qala, Mardakan, the fire sites and the beaches are spread across it, and the driving between them is most of the day.

Public transport reaches parts of it. The metro and city buses serve the built-up side, so Qala and Mardakan are gettable if you have the morning and only one of them in mind. What they do not do is join the dots: the fire sites and the beaches sit apart from each other, and every hop between them becomes its own negotiation. A car for a few hours is what people actually book here — tell us the stops and we price the whole thing rather than each leg. For a single drop-off a taxi will usually do, and we will say so.

What each car costs on this road

Prices are per car, not per seat — which is why four people usually pay less each than four bus tickets plus the taxi at the far end. There is no separate one-way rate: a day trip comes back the same day, and if the car stays with you longer, the nights are added on the booking form.

Somewhere not on this list, several stops, or a driver for the whole day? Tell us the route

What the price covers

 • The whole car, whether there are two of you or six
 • Collection at your address, not at a station
 • Fuel, road tolls and parking — nothing added at the end
 • A price agreed before you set off, with no meter running

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?
Forty minutes from the centre to the nearest sites, less to the airport side of the peninsula. Nothing on Absheron is more than an hour from Baku.
Can I get there on public transport?
To Qala and Mardakan, yes — the metro and city buses reach that side. Between the sites is the problem: they are spread out, and the hop from one to the next has no useful scheduled service.
Can we visit several places in one trip?
That is the usual booking. Give us the list — Qala, Mardakan, Yanardag, a beach — and we quote the hours rather than the kilometres.
Is it worth a transfer at all for 35 km?
For a single drop-off, often not; a taxi will do it. It is worth it when the car waits, because a taxi that waits on Absheron is a negotiation at every stop.
Is there a guided version?
The Absheron half day takes in Ramana, Balakhani and Yanardag with a guide, which is the easier answer if you want the places explained rather than just reached.
