Shahdag Ski Rental and Lessons: What the Day Costs Beyond the Pass

The pass is the number everyone looks up before a Shahdag trip, and we have set that table out already. For anyone who does not travel with their own skis it is the smaller half of the bill. Equipment and lessons are the rest, and the resort publishes both — in two lists that are easy to misread.

What follows is those two lists, read cell by cell, with the arithmetic done for a first day.

Rental: two counters, two price lists

Shahdag rents equipment through Sport System at two points, one in the Zirve Hotel and one in the Shahdag Hotel & SPA. They do not charge the same. The same beginner skis cost 23 at Zirve and 28 at the Shahdag Hotel, and the gap runs through the whole list.

Two things the lists do not say. There is no currency sign on either — everything else the resort prices is in manat, and we read these the same way — and no rental period: nothing on the page says "per day". Ask at the counter before you assume.

Put together, a beginner's skis, boots and helmet come to 50 at Zirve and 60 at the Shahdag Hotel. A child's set is 48 and 55. A snowboard with boots is 50 and 60. If you have the choice of counter, it is worth ten a head.

Both points also rent sledges — simple 20, wooden 25, iron 40. Zirve lists them for children under 12, the Shahdag Hotel for under 6.

Lessons: the ski school's own list

The resort runs ski schools at the Shahdag Hotel & SPA, the LakeSide Hotel and the Zirve Hotel, open 09:00–17:00, and books lessons online through its own system at shahdag.skisolution360.com. Lessons are for skiing or snowboarding at the same price.

Private lessons

Note where the lists start: the shortest adult lesson is two hours, the shortest children's lesson one.

Group lessons, 4 to 8 people

An instructor for the day is ₼230 for a half day and ₼440 for a full one for an adult (₼120 and ₼250 for each extra adult), ₼150 and ₼250 for a child. Monthly packages run from ₼480 for four adult lessons to ₼1420 for twelve, and a two-hour lesson on the FIS stadium slope is ₼200 for an adult, ₼150 for a child.

The line worth noticing

The "extra person" column changes the maths for couples. Two adults sharing a two-hour private lesson pay ₼130 + ₼70 = ₼100 each — the same as a place in a three-hour group of up to eight strangers. The group gives you an extra hour; the private lesson gives you the instructor's whole attention. For a first time on skis, most people learn faster with the second.

A first day, costed

An adult who has never skied, renting at Zirve and taking a place in a group: pass ₼45, skis, boots and helmet 50, group lesson ₼100 — about 195 for the day. A child of eight on the same day: pass ₼35, a child's set 48, a one-hour private lesson ₼70 — about 153. The pass prices are in our ski-season article; everything else is from the two lists above.

What we do and do not do

We drive the road: Baku to Shahdag is priced per vehicle, from ₼180, and a ski group with bags travels better in one van than in three cars — the Mercedes Vito takes up to 7, the Sprinter up to 18. Staying in Quba rather than on the mountain? The Shahdag to Quba run is about an hour.

We do not book lessons, rent equipment or go up the mountain with you. The school and the rental counters are the resort's; book them with the resort.
